Silvio DePaoli Interview (Part of the Italian American Oral History Project)

Silvio DePaoli emigrated from the Italian province of Friuli to United States to find work in Colorado. He returned to Italy in 1912 to visit his family but was drafted into the Italian army. In 1920, he returned to America and moved to Caspian, MI to work in the mines. DePaoli discusses working conditions, wages, and early mining practices he experienced in the nearby mines. Additionally, he describes the town of Caspian during its beginning, the layout of the town, everyday life, and the cost of different necessities.
