Elmer Mangiat, born in Gwinn in approximately 1911, discusses his childhood memories, World War I, school, food, living conditions, Mussolini, jobs, logging, mining, how he met his wife, transportation and railroads, religion, his own military service, his family's boarding house, gardening, and why his father came to the United States in 1902. This recording was made "in the Upper Peninsula." Nothing more specific about the location is mentioned. The sound quality is medium. At one point, another voice chimes in in the background.
