Scope and Contents

This collection documents the long history of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Chapter, Society. DKG is a professional organization of women educators. Members must have at least five years experience in education. The national society began in 1929 and the Delta Chapter was established at the Northland Hotel in Marquette in 1939. The officers include president, vice president, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer, and historian. The society works on legislation, education support, and scholarships.

The collection consists of scrapbooks that maintain meeting programs, news clippings, correspondence, and photographs of the Delta chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma society in Marquette, Michigan. Also included are a collection of bulletins from the state and national organizations. A second accession consists of correspondence, group meeting minutes, membership lists, Future Teacher Sponsorship (1956), Save the Children Foundation (George Thevaios and Leila Hamalainen) correspondence, Chapter Organization records (1939), membership transfer applications, newsletters, and various publications. The collection's materials date from 1938 to 2000.
