This is a small collection consisting of the papers of Tyyne Ostlund, a graduate of Northern Michigan University. The materials consist of notebooks, sketches, papers, and correspondence, mostly focusing on topics of architecture and art.

Biographical/Historical

Tyyne Ostlund was a Finnish student from Ishpeming, Michigan and graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1937 with a B.S. in Art. She was a teacher at Ishpeming High School. The Tyyne Maria (Kauppila) Ostlund Scholarship was established in 2005 as a result of a gift from Matt and Sanna Luhtala for full-time NMU students enrolled as Art and Design Majors, with preference given to students of Finnish descent.

The Tyyne Ostlund papers were processed as a small manuscript collection and consists of 4 folders with materials maintained in original order.

Series 1 - "History of Architecture" notebook, no date (1 folder). This is a handwritten notebook with pictures of various buildings and architectural designs included. There are also a number of hand drawn sketches.

Series 2 - "Pre-Classic Art" notebook, no date (1 folder). This is a handwritten notebook with pictures of an assortment of artwork included. There are also a number of hand drawn sketches.

Series 3 - "Impressionism and Post-Impressionism: Monet, Signac, and Sourat," May 9, 1948 (1 folder). This a typewritten paper.

Series 4 - Notes and Postcards. (1 folder). This folder contains a small collection of postcards and handwritten notes on different topics.
