This collection, MSS-269, Collection of "Anishinaabe News" newsletters, consists of copies of the newsletter published by the Center for Native American Studies (CNAS) at Northern Michigan University (NMU). Biographical/Historical

The Center for Native American Studies (CNAS) published the newsletter, "Anishinaabe News." A publication dedicated to featuring Native American-related news, perspectives, and artwork of writers, photographers, and proofreaders, both Native and non-Native.

"Nishnawbe News" began in 1971 and grew to a circulation of more than 8,000, following a decrease in funding the printing of the publication was halted in 1983. 2002 saw the return of the "Anishinaabe News" in a digital format as an online publication by the staff of the Center for Native American Studies.. In October 2005, it made its comeback as a student-run print publication.
