The Jennie Eline Olson diary is a daily diary written during the years 1905-1907 and appears to be a daily log of events in her life. At the time of writing, Jennie would have been between 17 and 19 years old. In the diary she lists the names and birthdates of her parents and people who appear to be her siblings.

Her father is identified as Johan Oluf Olson, born March 28, 1856, with no place of birth given. Her mother is identified as Eli and shows a birthdate of January 5, 1864 in Hoilandet, Norge [Norway].

Biographical/Historical

Jennie Eline Olson wrote this diary starting in September of 1905 and ended it in February 1907. According to the diary Jennie lived in Ishpeming, Michigan at the time of the writing. She states that she was born on February 5, 1888 in Negaunee, MI and was christened by Reverand Sovde in Ishpeming on April 26, 1888. Reverand H. Fosnes of Ishpeming conducted her confirmation on April 26, 1903 in Ishpeming and she graduated from the Ishpeming High School on June 14-15, 1906.

The Jennie Eline Olson diary was gifted to the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives by Dr. Russell Magnaghi who purchased it from an individual in Negaunee, MI in October 2013.
